Review on πŸ”§ M-D Building Products 43811 Pewter MultiFloor Transitions: 36-Inch Hidden Fasteners for Seamless Flooring by Scott Spoja

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made product. Ease of installation. Hidden fasteners keep it neat and tidy, but some deficiencies have been identified/fixed.

The appearance and installed product is attractive, although in my experience the hidden mounting system was a bit awkward to install. The concealed fastening system consisted of 6 plastic plugs with ribs and wings. The top of each connector slides into the channel guides on the bottom of the pole. You'll drill 1/4-inch holes in the floor, aligned with the centerline of the plank, the distance needed to open the door. Then insert the head/top of the plugs into the canal to line up with your holes and begin to slowly insert/release the plugs into the holes, working back and forth along the line of the plugs. I found the plugs to be a fairly snug fit in the holes and their stems give a little under pressure, so you have to steady them with your fingers when you press down on them to keep them from slipping in the canal and giving in when you insert them. In my experience the design of the latches makes it difficult to firmly attach the bar to the floor (no screws to tighten). In my case, when changing from vinyl to hardwood, there was slight side-to-side movement possible after the dowels were fully pushed in. Walking and a slight tapping when walking along the transition due to the gap between the ledge and the hardwood. I used some clear silicone glue/sealant between the hardwood and the bottom edge of the strip to eliminate movement and knocking noise.
