Review on Eccotemp EM-4.0 Electric Mini Tank Water Heater - 4.0-Gallon Capacity by Bill Russett

Firstly the water heater is well made and insulated. The device works as advertised and hookup was easy. Fittings are made of plastic, so care must be taken not to twist threads or over-tighten connections. Be sure to route the dishwasher inlet hose to the outlet of the mini tank when installing the mini tank as a booster. I did not give the Eccotemp 4.0 gallon mini tank 5 stars for the following reasons: 1. The unit is large and has a large relief valve on top. I installed it in a cupboard under the kitchen sink, which I think is a typical kitchen sink installation. The block would fit better if it was longer and wider and not as tall. The height of the device did not allow it to be installed under the sink itself and had to be placed in front of the cabinet, leaving less space for storing kitchen utensils. 2. The power cord is very short and does not reach the socket already installed under the sink by about 2 cm. The cord should be at least two to three feet longer to allow the heater tank to be installed away from the sink. For this installation, the device required a new, longer power cord. I installed the device as an amplifier on the hot water pipe. Before purchasing, I measured 2.3 gallons of water before the water in the kitchen sink got hot enough from the home water heater. With the booster tank in place and the hot water faucet left open I get about 2.5 gallons of hot water, then the water temp slowly drops to about 105-100F while the cold water in the house lines fills the remaining water in the 4 gallon tank chills , about through The 1 gallon temperature rises too high again because the main water heater is sending hot water to the mini tank. The unit is great for my needs as most small laundry jobs can be done with the 2.5 gallon. I've noticed that my dishwasher, which now runs on mini-tank water, finishes quicker as it no longer goes into delay heat mode while struggling to heat the incoming water.
