Review on 🎧 EPOS GTW 270: Low Latency Wireless Gaming Earbuds for Nintendo Switch, Mobile, PC & PS5 by Abhinav Drury

Maybe aptX-LL just isn't ready. for everything.

I like a lot about these headphones. You sound fantastic. They are super comfy. The included EPOS Gaming Suite software works great and works great. However, I don't think it's fair to call these headphones "gaming". To qualify, they have to offer really low latency, and they really work in that regard. Unfortunately, the aptX-LL (Low Latency) codec seems to be so on a razor's edge that it can't do without the occasional crackling noise, which seems to get worse over time on my Windows PC and laptop, even after trying different ports , firmware and driver updates. Many thanks to EPOS for providing their own USB dongle for compatibility, but I'm afraid that's not enough. To confirm the crackle issue with aptX-LL, I paired these headphones with a Creative BT-W3 dongle, which also offers aptX-LL as well as regular aptX, aptX HD, and SBC. . aptX and SBC worked flawlessly, with great sound and zero crackling - just the usual 200-300ms latency, making it unsuitable for gaming. Switching to aptX-LL almost eliminated the lag, but the crackle soon reared its ugly head again. It's not very intrusive but enough to be annoying and at this price point I expect a lot more. Bluetooth. I wish EPOS would do the same here, but I think you'd miss out on that mobile compatibility that everyone seems obsessed with. I'm not sure if this is a bug of aptX-LL in general or just an implementation of EPOS. In any case, I'm sending them back.
