Review on πŸ–₯️ Shop Vertiv Avocent SV340H: 4-Port Dual-Head HDMI 4K Ultra HD KVM Switch by Michael Patilla

Revainrating 3 out of 5

DisplayPort KVM, which works reliably with the latest MacBook Pros but has issues.

Update 2: Virtiv Support has confirmed that the MacBook Pro display activation issue detailed below is a known firmware issue with this switch. I was told they will replace your switch with an updated one. Unfortunately, Revain seems to stock this item as well as a dual display version with this issue. Since it's literally the only DisplayPort KVM that even works remotely with a MacBook Pro, I'd imagine it's worth it if you fall into that category. (I haven't gotten mine back yet, but I'll update when I do to make sure it's working properly.) I also bought the dual display version and I'm having an issue with mouse movement "Stuttering" occurs, which it does - it's painful. use. This issue even affects the MacBook Pro's built-in trackpad! Vertiv said again that this is a known firmware issue and that it has been fixed in later versions, so a replacement is necessary. monitor is connected. The fact is that the MacBook wakes up from sleep. Otherwise it works perfectly. I also found that the "Premium UHD" DisplayPort I purchased from Revain was actually causing issues where there weren't before. (Unless it's broken.). Replacing the unnamed DP cable with a fancy new one only caused the same problem I just described (a problem that affects all display switching with cheaper KVMs), where my original unnamed 4K cable worked fine (with Exception of the sleep problem.) So if you are seeing this problem with your MacBook and the docking station or KVM, try swapping the DP cable! It looks like Apple DP support over USB-C is really bad. Original Review: For some reason, the new MacBook Pro with DisplayPort over USB-C is very unreliable. With other high end KVMs I found that when switching back to my MBP almost all KVMs - even the well known industry standard Black Box KVM - had problems getting the timing emulation to work reliably, had switched to a different computer, and I had to reconnect the display cable. to get the monitor working even though the graphics card still thought the display was connected. Even with this switch, using some DisplayPort cables had the same issue with this switch, but using standard 4K cables (not conspicuously braided) worked great. Just be aware of what cables you use with your MBP and you should be fine. The audio and USB lock feature is also very useful. Also, you should get a good docking station for your MBP that offers the full power of the USB-C port as it improves the performance. I've found that USB-C to DisplayCables cables aren't very good and often require a reboot. Again, I think it's because Apple doesn't handle DisplayPort well. The dock has its own conversion so DisplayPort is native at this point. The CalDigit dock is worth every penny
