Sometimes I've struggled to control my dog's barking. I never bought a collar because I didn't like the idea of being shocked by something that is normal behavior for dogs. Taking a close look at them and seeing that they were ONLY with vibration and sound, I gave them a try. Generally speaking, to stop the behavior you just need to divert attention from what they are barking. I used a spray bottle for potty training. When he started squatting, I would spray him to quickly get his attention and stop him, then take him outside where I would praise him for peeing. It's the same concept. I collar when barking is inappropriate and adjust sensitivity. When he starts barking, the vibration immediately grabs his attention and stops the barking before it's fully heard. No pain, no punishment, just an eye-catcher that effectively prevents the problem. It took a little practice to get the sensitivity right. Every dog has their own level of what will catch their attention. My pit bull is stubborn and very focused so he had a high sensitivity setting to really get his attention. This collar was perfect for us.
