I'm embarrassed by all the negative reviews. Maybe I just got a good one? This works great for keeping our Mastiff mix in the bedroom (and away from cats) at night. The tension generated is quite strong. As a 5ft 2in / 130lb female, I sometimes have a hard time locking and unlocking it, so I think it takes a decent amount of force to move it once it's in place (and especially when I'm against doors). I'm sure he could jump over it if he wanted to, so I put him a bit over the door and don't leave him unattended.
