I'm hammering a beam in my basement. All 4 bolts in a beam parallel to the specified beam. It's not perfect, but it works. I made sure the pilot holes were the right size to avoid stripping/splitting the wooden beam. I also greased the screws. A little. If it's a permanent attachment, add some wood glue. If you can move it add some toilet wax so we can easily fit in the wooden pilot hole you made. I need this so my petite wife can watch TV on the elliptical and treadmill consoles. I was fine.
