Good not good for the body

Overall I am happy with these brackets as they are durable and look good when fitted to the frame. When standard mirrors are fitted and pushed down they provide a snug and stable fit. My mirrors are fully rotated to give as much side clearance as possible, but I was able to easily adjust both mirrors to be visible when driving with the doors open . Now for the cons, and there are several of them: - There is no substrate on the mount, there is metal everywhere. It wasn't my intention to screw metal to metal and ruin the jeep's paintwork, so I took some very thin sheets of rubber from Home Depot with glue on one side and cut them to fit the brackets. If you plan on using them, make sure you understand how your mirrors are built. I think different years have slightly different components. My Jeep is a 2001 TJ and the OEM mirror assembly has small teeth and matching notches on the two fittings that keep the bracket stable (I think); However, these teeth will not allow the mirror assembly to sit flush on this mount and will damage the paint on the mount. If you use a washer between the teeth and the bracket, the transom bolt will not go all the way through the bracket. You will need to tighten the nut on the bottom or it will slide into the bracket as the bracket was designed to allow the original mirror tube to slide completely. You'll probably need to recycle. some OEM gear, at least on my jeep. There are no frame bolts or nuts for the transom bolts, and as you've no doubt read, the original frame bolts are very difficult to remove and can be stripped off. You get a dented door when you open it, although you can help with this by twisting the door strap. I don't open my Jeep doors all summer and store them through the winter, so it shouldn't be too difficult to reinstall the OEM mirror brackets when I reinstall the doors, or reverse in the spring. All bolts are high-strength and work like clockwork. In general, I don't mind these mounts because they're pretty cheap, and in the Jeep world, just taking a piece of metal can often be expensive. I tried Rugged Ridge's quick release system for double the price but didn't like the look, it reminded me of scooter mirrors, but the QD system was pretty cool as it was great for removing marks. But they also whistled in the wind like a train, it was awful so I tried something else. These brackets can also be removed fairly quickly, but you will need an 11/16 wrench to tighten the bottom bolt.
