A little history first. I started with Surly Nates on my 26x4 bike. I liked them, but on wet roads they slipped into corners without warning. Then I switched to Maxxis Minions. The minions had free footing on all surfaces. They looked great too. i was in love again Then I ride the rails to the trails south. Virtually no terrain, just endless miles of the Silver Comet Trail in Georgia and Chief LaDiga in Alabama. The minions look great but I was sweating after 6-8 miles on a flat track. I even had to pedal downhill otherwise I would stall when coasting. No bueno. My travels ended after about 15 miles and I was a wreck of a man at the time - sweating through my shoes/clothes and dripping hair and all. After a few weeks of this kind of beating, the affair with the henchmen is over. I have these tires and it says "30 lb max pressure" on the sidewall just like the minions. I used a Motion Pro sensor (which has an accuracy of 0.1lb) and set these little ones at 29.5lbs. Now I can run 30 miles without a problem or sweat on an 80 degree sunny day. I've also found that the highest gear on my bike isn't high enough for me on flat surfaces or downhill. The transformation is amazing. I didn't know a fat man could roll like a skinny one. Now it used to be easy and frivolous to ride this bike at an angle across the lawn onto the sidewalk. Instead, with all that pressure, the tire just brakes and slides down the pavement as I do gymnastics on one leg to stay off the high pass. If your only priority is to reduce rolling resistance, these tires are the right choice. With these tires I can overcome any obstacle on the road. If you're looking for a good all round tire that can handle some gravel and 90% asphalt then these could be your tyres, but probably only in the summer. In winter (wet weather) these guys are sketchy on everything but tarmac, but be aware that the 26x3.5" piece isn't like the 35mm 700C piece. Just be careful. It is perpendicular to the street. With my high pressure, they're relatively easy to slide, but if you just slide in the back you'll stop pretty quickly since they have 3.5" tires, after all. Pretty big footprint. The overall look with my black rims is NASCAR-like and I get more extras with these tires than I do with Minions or Nates. I think it's because they look really different while the dents look more than expected. I'm in love again but Minions and Nates left. They all have a place. That's why you have a fat man - versatility.
