I bought this radio to replace a 1940's GE AM radio in my living room. I usually listen to AM in the morning when I'm having breakfast and getting ready for work. But I noticed that my old radio, although beautifully remodeled, had trouble connecting to many stations regardless of orientation or my external loop antenna. It also picked up both signal and noise/interference. I'm only hesitant to buy the Sangean because many manufacturers see AM as a side feature that doesn't actually work very well. Well I'm happy to report that AM's performance is excellent! It connects tons of transmitters and even more when combined with my loop antenna. It filters out noise without sacrificing sound quality and sounds great! VHF is also very strong (I use a 150mm antenna) and picks up a lot of stations. In fact, there are so many that the green LED that helps you find the strongest signal is always lit when you're scanning for FM stations. However, it flickers and gets brighter when you hit a usable station, so it still helps. In my case, the light is clearer at AM. Bluetooth has a long range: I can be in another part of my apartment in my bedroom and it still connects to my phone. It should also be noted that this model uses a real analogue tuner and not just a needle dial. If you move the dial, it never stops receiving a signal, even if it's just static. Digital tuners typically mute between stations. This is great for finding weak or distant stations as the radio doesn't hide anything from you. In terms of sound quality in general, this thing can be very bass heavy! I suggest turning down the bass setting if you live in an apartment! The sound is rich and lively, and the tone controls are welcome. A dedicated FM stereo setting is great too, as some stations may have hiss in stereo, but it's much better to switch to FM mono. I believe you can customize the sound to your liking and really get the most out of this excellent radio if you want! My special unit was made in 2018.
