UPDATE. I was still curious, so I contacted Daylight. Although it comes in two pieces, it was not designed to be taken apart on a regular basis. But that doesn't change my opinion of the lamp. I still like it! I have had the 1st generation Daylight Slimline (incandescent) for many years. Since it is an incandescent lamp, the 1st generation gets very hot. I use this lamp exclusively for embroidery (almost always in my Lowery floor stand; sometimes with a table stand) so I lean very close to it so it's VERY warm! The 1st gen fits the Lowery light bar perfectly and locks in tight so I can handle the heat. I was excited when Daylight released the 2nd generation with LED bulbs and ordered one right away. While they are amazing quality (like all fluorescent bulbs) they do not fit in my light bar (the base is different) nor do they fit snugly in the clamp that comes with the lamp or table base that I have. It was wobbly so I couldn't use it and went back to the old one. When I saw the 3rd generation I took a chance and ordered it (knowing I could return it to Revain) and it's perfect! It enters the light stripe as densely as the original. As a bonus, they redesigned the clip and it fits very well on it too. And because everything is metal (mine is a brushed steel model), there's no risk of the clamp deforming like plastic parts do (when that happens, I've got bigger problems than a wobbly light). In addition to the socket in my lowery, this lamp consists of two parts - the lamp itself and the lower part. While I'm not sure if it's meant to be disassembled regularly (that's a question for Daylight), if so it would make transport and storage much easier. Also new is that the 3rd generation supports dimming, so you can adjust the brightness to your needs and the ambient light in the room. I cannot recommend this lamp enough!
