This little gem is described as 'handcrafted in Maine from the finest New England hardwoods', 'combining beautiful looks with modern technologies', etc. up front. I think we can all agree that it is very important to use only real New England woods in our salt delivery systems. I certainly would never have been surprised by the hardwoods of the lower mid-Atlantic. (Not to mention - <choke> - softwoods!) And only troglodytes would use anything less than the latest technology in their manual salt crystal unwrapping mechanisms. Now that we've got that out of the way, the second most important reason to buy a salt shaker is its looks. In my case, I wanted something that would look good in a modern kitchen. I liked the photo of this product and was pleasantly surprised that it looks even better in real life. It has a nice finish and doesn't feel cheap or plasticky in the hand. And all my salt crystals are now delivered with the utmost precision.
