Review on Shure 55SH II Unidyne Microphone by Patrick Lets

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Does what it does and does it well

Bought a Super 55 Deluxe for my wife to use during home studio rehearsals. She was using a $100 Sennheiser E835 Dynamic Cardioid and *hated* it, so I decided to fix it. With no changes other than hooking up a Shure Super 55, adjusting the input signal on the mixer, and applying a light EQ, the difference in her voice was noticeable. Very smooth and consistent response across the entire vocal frequency range. Some boost in presence, subtle and helping the vocals cut through the mix. Another reviewer mentioned that the Shure Super 55 might have some compression qualities - I agree, and that's a good thing; She can go straight to the mic, softly or yell, it doesn't really tie the meter to my board. Another thing is that she *loves* the look of the Super 55 Deluxe; gets it in the mood for the 40's/50's jazz stuff she does so well :) All in all - we're very happy with the Super 55 Deluxe and I'll probably be buying a second one soon.
