The clarity of this mic is AMAZING! I took a chance and took it apart.

My friends think I'm crazy! I ordered this mic, disassembled it and powder coated the body bright red! I replaced the foam windshield with yellow foam on the inside. After soldering the wires inside and reassembling, I tested it. The clarity of this mic is AMAZING! I took the risk of taking it apart and changing the look, but if the band gift this mic to our lead guitarist/vocalist, he'll go nuts! Excellent microphone also /after/ modifications!

Classic old world charm, modern crisp sound.

Everyone loves old school style mics. I bought this for a good friend who is a bit of a crooner. The beauty of this mic is that it has an old school appeal but with a very modern sound. It is very similar to the Shure Beta 58a and the reason for the similarity is that it uses the same capsule which sounds clearer and more modern than the older SM58 and has a hotter output. So yes, you can buy this classic mic and get a modern sound with a nice tight supercardioid pickup pattern. I wondered if…

Does what it does and does it well

Bought a Super 55 Deluxe for my wife to use during home studio rehearsals. She was using a $100 Sennheiser E835 Dynamic Cardioid and *hated* it, so I decided to fix it. With no changes other than hooking up a Shure Super 55, adjusting the input signal on the mixer, and applying a light EQ, the difference in her voice was noticeable. Very smooth and consistent response across the entire vocal frequency range. Some boost in presence, subtle and helping the vocals cut through the mix. Another…

Sounds as good as it looks!

I used to have a Shure 55SH mic and while it looked stunning I was never satisfied with the sound. It doesn't matter how good a mic looks on stage, if it doesn't sound good it doesn't belong there, except as a prop. The blue foam of the Super 55 put me off at first, but then I got the idea of pairing it with light blue XLR mic cables and thought it would be a really 'distinctive' look and would be popular. What bothered me the most, of course, was the sound. I did a little research and was…

Great looking mic but how it picks up your voice may vary

Pros: - Definitely one of the nicest mics I've ever used - Build quality is top notch except for the plastic part next to the stylus. Some artists say this mic makes their voice perfect, and you might be in luck. Cons: The mids and highs were a bit harsh (at least for my voice). Crate. I had to make some powerful equalizers with this one. It doesn't have a humbucker coil. So if your environment has a lot of electromagnetic interference, you can hear it through a headset or monitor speakers…
