I'm a Melissa and Doug fan for my son. It is a pity that my daughter did not have such a toy. I bought my son a painting easel for Christmas and he enjoyed painting and painting. It's high quality plastic or vinyl (or whatever) and the mess just rubs off. The pockets are a bit shallow and wide to keep large brushes in place, but I don't think that matters (what artist even keeps their brushes in their pockets?). However, note that this is too much for a typical 3-4 year old. old that it's hanging off my son's shoulder on one side, but I didn't realize he was at all uncomfortable using it.
