The unit comes with a retrofit which is easy to remove as I replaced an existing dull LED ceiling light which requires no assembly. The only confusing part was figuring out how to put the light into adjustment mode. At some point I found out that you have to turn the light on and off three times with the wall switch. Leave the light on. , at the 3rd counter. The indicator will start flashing, showing it's ready to connect to the internet. While you can turn the light on and off with the wall switch, you get more functionality by leaving it on at the switch and controlling it with the app. You can control multiple lights individually or in groups. My biggest concern with these lights (and pretty much every IoT device) is what will happen if my internet goes down. Requires at least local WiFi. connection, but I'm not sure if you can create and save new programs when there is no internet connection. That's why I saved my old dumb flashlights for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
