Review on The Survival Antenna: Enhance Your Portable Hand Held or Vehicle Ham Radio for Ultimate Survival Use with the Right BNC Adapter by Elder Unogu

The antenna works fine. Excellent customer service

This antenna serves its intended purpose well as an easy to deploy field antenna that extends the range of a 2m HT radio over a standard rubber antenna. I was thinking of using the antenna along with a 20ft Shakespeare Wonderpole to use ARES. Mounted this way, the performance is comparable to my existing copper J-Antenna that I use as a fixed mount at home... and you don't need wood. Another possible use for the antenna is to run it in 5-foot Schedule 40 PVC pipe to create a rigid, protected vertical antenna that can be mounted to a pole or mast with a pair of hose clamps rod can be attached. Use a pair of pressed PVC connectors drilled top and bottom for the parachute line and coax cable to complete the antenna. I also made one of these and plan to use it for ARES or Field Day. Also, the customer service was excellent. Addendum: Instead of grade 40 PVC pipe, which is heavy-wall PVC, I've decided it's better to use 200 psi pipe, which is light-wall PVC pipe. Both are available from Lowes.

Pros
  • Great solution for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
