I think it's for laptops that don't have a sound card. I bought it to connect a couple of stereo mic inputs to my laptop via USB instead of the crappy mic jack that comes standard. First, the drivers on the hard drive don't work. You have to go to the Startech website and download new ones and they are very well hidden. After twenty minutes of searching I finally found them and downloaded them and they installed without any problems. But there is another piece of software that boots itself that is very important to work properly and neither the manual nor the website says anything about it. The main problem is that I just couldn't get it to transmit a signal. of each entry in my copy of Sound Forge. I wasted a day trying to set this thing up before an important gig and ended up just sending it back and recording with the lame mic jack I was trying to avoid. Startech technical support has been fantastic. My representative was patient and knowledgeable and with his help we got a signal through one day. But the next day, the day of the concert, he stopped working. I don't know who this is for, but trust me. Maybe you're not.
