Works almost perfectly on Linux, with JACK2 and 10.3 ms latency!

This is an overview of the StarTech.com 7.1 USB Audio Adapter External Sound Card with SPDIF Digital Audio Sound Cards ICUSBAUDIO7D. from TOSLINK and output it to my speakers and headphones. I figured I could use this to not only replace the horrible onboard sound in my laptops, but also transfer data from the PS4 to my laptop. Lenovo ThinkPad T520. A real-time core with a pulsing audio jack running in the background. I'm getting 1 xrun about every 10-15 minutes, but that's most likely due toโ€ฆ

Works great on Windows 7 64-bit

Works great! I have Windows 7 64-bit, I plugged it into one of my 3.0 USB hubs and plug-n-play did the rest. I didn't use the CD that came with it. I had to replace the stock speakers in a couple of places so be sure to check them out. I have Altec 5.1 surround sound computer speakers that I bought years ago and they are fantastic! I read the reviews from people who had problems and it worried me a little but I'm very glad I bought it anyway. I'm sorry for the people who can't make it work.

I'm considering a USB 7.1 audio adapter. .

I'm considering a USB 7.1 audio adapter. It was worth the price. I've been using it for 2 years now. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and encountered the same problem as some of you. 5.1 surround sound is not output. After fiddling with the settings I finally got it working. For those who haven't figured it out yet, here's what worked for me. Right-click the sound icon [the default sound icon in the taskbar] and select Playback Devices. Then right-click "USB Multi-channel Audio Deviceโ€ in theโ€ฆ

External components Just okay

Let's get the good stuff out of the way - It was easy to install in the PCI/USB slot - Easy to connect to speakers - Now for the bad - I should have checked before I bought it So it's up to me, but it doesn't have HD audio pins for my PC case's headphone and microphone jacks. However, the sound quality is really only okay and if you try to crank it up to even a moderate volume, it becomes a pretty loud hum. Strange. The volume below the feedback is pretty low - I checked all my settings, cardโ€ฆ

Small device mess

I think it's for laptops that don't have a sound card. I bought it to connect a couple of stereo mic inputs to my laptop via USB instead of the crappy mic jack that comes standard. First, the drivers on the hard drive don't work. You have to go to the Startech website and download new ones and they are very well hidden. After twenty minutes of searching I finally found them and downloaded them and they installed without any problems. But there is another piece of software that boots itself that

Awesome!: Computers and Accessories

Finally I can replace the onboard sound card (Realtek). The built in card was fine until I had to look for new drivers after reinstalling and couldn't find any that were compatible with Windows 10. I tried several and they were unstable at best and caused random system crashes. I even tried a new Creative Labs sound card and had the exact same problem finding stable drivers on Windows 10. So I removed all those failed attempts to install drivers manually with Autoruns (MS Sysinternals app) andโ€ฆ

  • Great for a small home

  • Some bugs

Highly recommended. This USB adapter works very well as an interface for recording musical instruments with a battery powered 3.5mm STEREO microphone such as the AT2022 or AT822 (a type of stereo microphone commonly used for audio video and portable audio recording applications) . This is a worthy replacement for the old Griffin iMic that only recorded in 16-bit. Stereo microphones combined with this sound card and laptop create a very light, compact and portable package for fast, greatโ€ฆ

Poor microphone support; Sound. acceptable

my laptop does not have a stereo microphone input. And this USB audio adapter was advertised as supporting stereo microphones. Spring. it supports stereo IN but I'm not sure if it supports microphones. I tried getting an unamplified stereo microphone to work with it, but the sound was barely good enough to record with an audio program. It definitely wasn't enough to use with any video chat software. This is where, in my opinion, StarTech failed in their design. Curious as to what this thing was
