Review on ZIWI Peak Air-Dried Cat Food – 🐱 Natural, High Protein, Grain-Free & Limited Ingredient with Superfoods by Brooke Watts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Surprisingly liked our very picky cat!

YES we have a winner! Eventually our diabetic cat ate freeze dried raw food until I rehydrated it (life saving duck mortar patties) and then one day out of the blue he had hypotension and after that he suddenly became allergic to duck, every time his vomit. time, even after trying again a month later. I switched him back to dry pellets with 5% carbs (he doesn't eat enough canned food to add at least 180 calories a day so we eat pellets too despite being diabetic) and have since tried various Ur-Nuggets and other foods. and he didn't want anything to do with them and at first acted like he didn't want anything to do with that zivi until another cat tried to steal him lol. I'm glad I didn't give up looking and tried this brand too. The 2% carbs in this meal will surely help bring my boy's blood sugar back to normal levels below 100 once he completely replaces the kibble after a week or so. Oh I will not be following the feeding recommendations although 312 calories per scoop is way too much even for my diabetic cat who is 16lbs (actually supposed to be 14.5) and her current weight is around 180-225 calories per day for several lasts months. I often see experts recommend 30 calories per pound, but this actually makes our cats fat, inactive house cats on solid food need a maximum of 15-20 calories per pound depending on their age. So you really only need 1/2 scoop of this (1 oz = 156 calories) and 1/2 can of 3 oz Chicken Zivi (56 cal) or another 3 oz of wet food to keep most inactive cats between 12 and 15 pounds a healthy one Weight. So this 14 ounce pack actually lasts 2 weeks for one cat and is more affordable for multi-cat households like ours. oh our other 3 cats even our dog are crazy about the smell, they all like this food too, weird because only one of them likes raw kibble at all. Edit: Had to stop feeding this to my diabetic cat as his regular food and now only use it as an occasional treat. After a week his blood sugar started to spike and exceeded 200 and stayed there and high 100 even after taking insulin. There were no health issues so I decided to stop feeding the food to see if there was a reason in particular after my cat vomited this food undigested about an hour after breakfast last day and there were many more pieces than I gave him for breakfast, even in the evening before eating! This kibble seems to take a long time to digest and this explains why my cat's blood sugar kept rising after the insulin shots and didn't go down much because he generally had a lot of food in his system. time on this meal! I decided to put some in warm water to rehydrate him so I could still feed him but after 4 hours he was still almost as hard as before! I think now I know why my cat stopped asking for wet food in the afternoon, his stomach was always full.
