Review on ๐Ÿ€„ Thrilling Mah Jongg Games with Yellow Mountain Imports โ€“ Uniting American Style and Artistry by John Caldwell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than I expected

The cards just arrived today and I still need to gather 4 people to learn how to play. (I bought cheaper cards just to see if I wanted to play at all.) I was very happy to discover: 1) All the cards were in the box. (I saw one person complain about the lack of a card.) 2) They were all solid plastic (I prefer them as they tend to stick around much longer than paper) 3) There were two full sets of red ones and green dragons. . One set used Chinese characters from the classic sets, while the other featured drawings of dragons. There were THREE sets of white dragon cards: a box symbol found in some sets, completely blank cards, and then a dragon design to go with red and green. Having that choice is a nice touch. 4) As advertised, there are 8 wilds to play American style. I think this will go unnoticed after the deck is used. I suspect the maps won't appeal to people who like the physical dynamics of the tiles. "Building walls" and other activities in traditional play are reduced to simply drawing cards from a deck, but that doesn't bother me. I expect a lot of fun with this inexpensive deck. Follow-up 3 years after the original review: I am pleased that my review received unanimous positive feedback. After my first check, I bought a real set of Mah Jongg chips and made friends with real Chinese players. I got lucky! IMHO the sellers of this deck offer a quality product as well as a good introductory product.
