The quality of the metal chess pieces are a acceptable however the quality of the wooden chessboard finish is not good. The colors of the tan and brown squares under the lacquered finish is uneven with light and dark colored tan squares and light and dark colored brown squares. Also at this price point the set should include an extra pair of Queen pieces and some basic Chess Playing Instructions for beginners.

I am literally overwhelmed by this small 12x12 chess set. The board is a mahogany wood painted black and the pieces are a hefty shiny metal. The set is a knockout piece to showcase on a coffee table and have a few rounds of chess. It is a heavy set, but I don't mind. I like heavy pieces. I have been looking for a nice metal chess set for a while in a good price range and this fits the bill perfectly. Unbelievable to look at and to play with. Excellent. Thanks.

The pieces in this set are very beefy and substantial. I think overall it is a really cool chess set. But the board is not quite as well made as the pieces themselves. But again, that is a minor thing. I think this is a great set for beginners or anyone wanting to actually play the game face to face rather than online.

I was impressed when we opened this chess set because of the quality of it. The only thing I would have like to have had was a handle on the case. You get a traditional chessboard but when you open it up, you see the quality of the pieces. They all run from the pawns which are 1.6" tall to the king which is 2.7" tall. Scratched box colored with what looks like a sharpie or cheap furniture marker. Metal hinges scratched and chess pieces scratched and not smooth. Looks like a return was just sent to another person.

This was a gift to my 19 yr old grandson, who is something of a chess whiz.He loved the elegant metal pieces, the finish on the Board and the quality of the two clasp locks on the board.will recommend to others

It is a very nice set. Unfortunately for me the one I received is missing pins within one of the latches so I doesn't hold itself closed as it should.

I am very happy with this chess set. The chess pieces have a nice luster and very nice weight to them and the board is very nicely made.

Contrary the pictures, the "gold” and "silver” pieces colors do not contrast much. Unless you’re in really bright lighting, it’s hard to differentiate during a game. So, my roomie added a drop of white paint on each of the silver pieces heads. The colors need to be more contrasting.

I love how it looks in my living room. That's my review. It not only looks elegant, they are lovely metal weighted pieces.

My son gave this set as a gift to another kid. He loved it. :) Buying another set for my son now. Great quality for the price.

They sent us a used box (had stains on it) and whoever typed up the description on the box didn't know how to proofread.The chess board itself was pretty small and we had trouble moving the pieces around

A beautiful well crafted set for an affordable price. Strong and sturdy! It's no masterpiece, and the box cover design has some typo error and chess pieces set up wrong in the cover picture. But those are minor, and the chess set is still really nice and solid. Very durable. I give two thumbs up and 5 stars! Giftable for sure!

My husband and I started playing chess again during the pandemic. The quality is good but I will not keep the board on top of a wooden table,unless you want the surface of your table to have scratches from the metal clasps. I gave it 4 stars because the board is not flat, it has a slight bend.
