I see listings on Walmart for the metal pieces alone, and they will start around $45 without a board. I thought surely those "pieces only" sets must be of higher quality than the metal pieces that are bundled with a board, so I weighed all the pieces in this set to compare. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the pieces in this set are just as heavy, if not heavier. For example, there is a listing for a metal set that cost $65 alone with no board. The King in that set is 3 inches tall, but only weighs 1.3 oz. The King in this set is only 2.75 inches tall, but weighs 1.7 oz. All the pieces have good padding on the bottom, and the board which doubles as a storage case too is just icing on the cake. 5 stars!
