I needed a gauge to check wood thickness in my CNC shop. Regular calipers seem to work, but I need something that will measure the thickness away from the edges of the material. Everything started well, but then problems with zero retention started. Changed the battery several times, didn't help. If I leave it on for a few minutes and then work with jaws open/closed, it settles down to the point where it can be used. A real PITA when trying to plane wood to a very specific size. And the ON/ZERO button is unreliable. Of course, I didn't know any of this until the return window slammed shut. I put up with it until I found something else. Hello calipers, goodbye scrap.
