This rod band will withstand a lot of stretching without breaking. It's comfortable but doesn't feel bad or feel good. I think a more natural material would feel better. It's thick enough to protect lightweight carbon handlebars well. I usually set my bike up so I don't put too much weight on the handlebars, so I don't put too much weight on the tape anyway. I don't wear gloves and have ridden this bike (Cannondale Supersix) for about a month (300 miles) without bar tape and that's just a small improvement.
