Not your typical model magic clay!

This isn't off-brand "model magic," as I assumed. It's like a cross between model magic and silly putty. It starts out oddly fluffy but a bit wet and slimy feeling (not in a bad way, as those who love slime can attest!) After a few minutes of being handled, it did firm up. It was kind of reminiscent of the old DIY oobleck effect, but way less messy! My 5 and 3 year olds had a great time with it, but it was a bit messier than I had expected. It stretches like silly putty does, but can be broken…

Pros
  • Great value for money
Cons
  • Some kids may lose interest in the kit quickly if they don't find the materials or projects exciting enough

Softer than most modeling clay but still a good product.

My kids love this and are enjoying it. Excellent value. Tons of colors and the molds are great. Love that you can store it all in the bucket with a lid. Only 4 stars because it is very soft, almost like slime or putty and not as firm and "carve-able" like traditional modeling clay. Some people may like that though so it's not a bad thing. My kids really love the texture.

Pros
  • Versatile and creative: With 36 different colors and endless possibilities, this modeling clay set encourages kids to unleash their imaginations and get creative with their sensory exploration and craft projects.
Cons
  • The kit may not be as durable as hoped, with some materials or tools breaking or wearing down easily with frequent use

Lots of it easy to us!

I had purchased this to give to my children (2yo and 8yo) for Easter, but decided to break into it early since we’re home for at least the next 3 weeks. They’re really enjoying it so far. The clay rehydrates well in a bag with a few drops of water overnight-it forms like a slimy goo you have to knead back into the clay.good gross fun!

Pros
  • Clay & Dough
Cons
  • The clay may stick to surfaces or fabrics, making cleanup a bit of a hassle

Awesome clay for kids!

My kids love this product! I love how all of the colors come in individual bags so we only open what we are going to use, and they have resealable bags to place the leftovers in to be used another time. This doesn’t dry super hard like other clays, but stays soft when it dries. The color doesn’t stain, it comes with a bunch of useful tools and so many colors in many different shades. Great product!

Pros
  • Safe to use: Non-toxic and safe for children to use, parents can rest assured that their little ones are playing with a safe product.
Cons
  • The kit may not be suitable for younger children who are not yet able to grasp the more advanced molding and shaping techniques

A LOT of clay in this bucket!

My kids had an absolute blast with this. I made a huge mistake in just handing it over to them (ages 8, 6, and 3) as there really were too many bags of clay for them so they just kept opening and opening and mixed them all. My 8 year old made a light saber that he's super proud of, it's been 3 days but It's not dry yet (it is huge though). He is having an art themed birthday party so I'm buying another of these for his guests to play with. There are several tools/molds included as well.

Pros
  • The SMITCO Modeling Air Dry Clay Set is the perfect way for families to bond over creative play and sensory exploration
Cons
  • The clay may have a strong odor that some kids may find off-putting

Great colors for my opinion

The color selection is great. The texture is good too. The quality of the mold and the tools is not the best. I would have liked to see the list of the clay ingredients and components present in each box. Non-toxic or some sort of quality assurance is also missing.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • The clay may dry out quicker than expected if not properly stored, rendering some of the colors unusable or harder to work with

Good product. - my new review

We received our order very fast. My son enjoys working with the clay. It’s more foamy than the texture you usually have with modeling dough. When it said self- drying I thought it would get hard. As it dries it becomes hard enough that you can no longer reshape it but not as hard as other modelings clays.

Pros
  • Kids in my class loved useing this vlay
Cons
  • My child enjoys playing with it on another note it dry up too fast

Classroom approved!

My students really enjoy using this. It does not have the texture of clay it's almost more of a foam slime. It mold very easily and we use it for our theme Center rotations. You just have to make sure to keep your plastic bags closed or the clay will dry hard. You get a lot of different colors. It is a very good value.

Pros
  • Long-lasting
Cons
  • The kit may not be as versatile as desired, with limited options for different types of projects beyond molding and shaping
