compared to all others as this is the first and hopefully only one I will own. I've read many reviews from half a dozen or more makes/models and while this one didn't get as many high stars in imperial measurements (inches) as some others, the reasons given were either irrelevant to me or just not relevant to washing. I kept coming back to this Fowler. I chose the metric version; I can do conversions fairly easily and slowly since the United States ((promised to go metric in the 1970s) ends up dealing with metric rather than imperial. Fowler had CARBIDE tips. It was important. It will don't measure as small as Anytime Gauge; only negative. Before using I lubricated what seemed best to me with petroleum jelly, the larger diameter threads and sliders and the finer aspects with 10-30 Valvoline. "Read the instructions .Choose an anvil I needed a spacer.Used Stanley's proprietary countertop clamp, ball joint, rubber coated jaws, micrometer vise.Found a suitable piece -small plastic tube in my collection of straws "for drinking" so that the caliper's anvil and the adjustable Anvil of the indicator are aligned (very handy) simply place the cut piece at an angle with one open end of the pry bar to allow the anvil of the caliper falls / slides slightly on the micrometer anvil. I measured in reverse as I used to recalibrate to find size rather than looking for size or taper. The caliber seemed pretty smooth to me. Repeats fairly well; appeared to be a stain on +/- maybe the width of the needle. I worked as a machinist so I was used to accurate and finicky measurements but still found I needed to learn how to find a good middle ground and keep it stable. Everything is fine with the box. Add a piece of elastic (a kind of clothing) to cover a third of the small spacers, 0.5, 1, 2, 3; as I think they can easily get lost. ?epoxy or ?clamp the rubber band. I think it's worth the money.
