Just received this lamp. Pros: Super bright light. Very agile hands. Let's see how long they last. I can bend them in circles and they don't feel overstretched. The clamp is light and strong, although I can see where it can eventually tear and become a nuisance. It is a screw mechanism that opens and closes the base's jaws. Be careful not to pull it. I see it crack. Cons: no rheostat. They are so bright that I can't see if I look inside for a moment! I wish I could black them out. Also, I want the "hood" to cover the edge of the lens so the light doesn't get into your eyes even when they're not aimed at you. This requires making a longer lens hood to allow the lens to be recessed. All in all a good lamp. With a few adjustments it could have been better. The cable is thinner than standard electric cables. As with most low voltage devices, the cord is the same as my Black & Decker battery charger: small diameter. The switch is built into the cable about a foot from the base and is made of plastic. The base is also made of plastic.
