Review on ESynic 3-In-1 Optical Audio Switch With Remote Control And 6Ft Cable For PS3, Xbox, Blue-Ray, And HDTV by Timothy Richmond

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Options . options .

For the price it’s a great deal. Only downside is my cables pull such that the little thing’s kind of on its heals (not so much as to be an issue, and if it bothers me the unit is solid enough to handle a little counterweight on top). This works fine; most importantly, as their blurb says, "no loss in sound.” I was wondering about that, concerned that since i was derailing a signal off it’s first path in the cable, through whatever routes it internally, to another cable, that there might be some degradation in what i’d finally hear. But my ears detect none. And i almost wanted to, since i’ve always believed a straight path yields the best audio results; simpler is better right? But maybe options are best. I may get another one for a different system in another room (or different configuration - in fact, i see no reason why the output of the first could not go into an input of a second, offering five optical sources to the DAC. I’ve read coaxial is better, but i hear little if any difference). And since this works it relieved me of another concern: potential wear and tear to my DAC by unplugging and replugging optical cables . & then having the little plastic bag with the little plastic covers on hand to carefully protect the now-vulnerable-to-dust-etc business end. That may end up degrading things more than this unit. In addition to that concern was the fact that my platforms/apps/devices don’t always play nice with each other. So one input is from the Chromecast audio, streamed to using an Android device, the older Apple TV is strictly for airplay streaming from phone or ipad (different apps), and the third is from a DVD player (in case i need to hear my few DVD-Audio discs, but also CDs), here into a Schiit Modi 3. Which leaves the coaxial input of the DAC available for a different player (hell, the whole Solit Ring can now be had on one BRD). A DVD player isn’t an audiophile transport, but the DAC sweetens the deal. I can play a CD, find it on Spotify, fuss a bit to sync them, and with the remote sit back and check if i can hear the difference — the sound change is instantaneous. It’s a fun experiment .
