Mediocre design with missing features that should be provided

I ordered this to have a spare light as well as a backup method of charging my phone and other items. Unfortunately, although it has an internal battery, the only way to charge it seems to be by cranking it. Why it didn't occur to the designer to allow charging via USB is unclear. Build quality is mediocre at best. The clip is so weak that once it gets caught on a bush in the woods it seems like it will come loose. Unless you're distracted by desperately trying to manually start it from a dead battery because it's sitting on a single charge for too long, if you weren't able to recharge it before driving, you won't be able to charge it via USB. All of these things would be forgivable at this price if they spent an extra 10 cents on USB charging. I even took out a USB-A to USB-A cable and plugged it in like this. It just lights up the green LED, but there's no way to tell if it's charging that way or just lighting up the LED. I left it like that overnight and it was still sitting with the same green LED on. Spend a few bucks more and simply buy one of Revain's many manual and USB charging emergency radios. As part of the deal, you get a radio and you can charge it so it's available in case of an emergency. I've seen ones that even have a solar panel for charging, and a few bucks more than that too. If they spent more money on design than Red Cross branding, maybe this would be a better product.
