The good, the bad and the ugly

First of all this is a fantastic product. It does exactly what you bought it for - makes popcorn in a way you won't believe! The device consists of: 1) a small plastic cover, 2) a transparent plastic dome, 3) a middle section with a two-handed toner. the hand that flips the popcorn (very nice!), 4) the lower unit with the heating coil, and 5) the power cord. My block is black and red. General usage: 1) Make sure parts #1, #2 and #3 are clean. Wash in soapy water or put in the dishwasher. 2) Assemble parts #4 and #3 by placing #3 on top of #4 and making sure the tonearms are snapped into place. In other words, if you can still rotate the arms with your finger, they will NOT lock. 3) Pour in enough oil to ONLY put some in the innermost area. Part #3 has two rings inside. Oil should ONLY get to the inner ring. DO NOT WET. Just make sure there is something in the inner ring all the way around. 4) Put enough popcorn in the machine to cover the oil. So again - you are not trying to feed the world! Just enough to cover the oil to be poured. 5) Place part #2 (clear dome) on top of the device and cover part #3. Make sure it is indeed oriented correctly. 6) Make sure there is no plastic cover on the device. He should sit next to him. 7) NOW connect the device and turn it on. The toner arm should rotate to move the cores. But DO NOT panic if this is not the case. Sometimes the oil will cause the toner arm to just ride over (or over) the cores. As soon as everything heats up and the grains begin to burst, the remaining grains begin to move. 8) Once the number of popping noises subsides, turn the unit off using the switch and THEN unplug it from the electrical outlet. 9) Make sure the plastic cover is removed from the device. 10) Gather BOTH the clear dome (part #2) and the center section (part #3), turn them AWAY and place them on top of the plastic cover. 11) Once the dome is on the lid, lift the center section (item #3), flip it over and place it back onto the base (item #4). Now you can enjoy your popcorn. Put what you want on it. Have fun! :-) Good - good: Durable. He does what he has to do. Everything fits together wonderfully. The domed lid does NOT break easily. The domed lid is great for serving popcorn. Popcorn pops fantastically well, only a few grains burn on the bottom, but otherwise - simply wonderful popcorn! The bad news is that the device's handles aren't big enough. Parts #3 and #4 get REALLY HOT and some of that heat is transferred to the transparent dome (#2) above. So it should be emphasized that these are giant letters, you MUST have something to pick up pieces #2 and #3 after the cores have finished spawning. Secondly, it cannot be stressed enough, DO NOT TURN BACK, except ON YOURSELF. You can easily burn yourself. Second, the on/off button is really too small and difficult to use when the bottom is hot. The switch should be replaced with another type of button that can be easily turned on or off. Deformity: I managed to get badly burned by the device. Over the last month I've made several bowls of popcorn with no problems. Then tonight. I prepared a large bowl of popcorn and as I started to turn it over, my fingers slipped and touched the very hot center part. With almost no insulation in this area and the small grips, I managed to burn three fingers. Luckily, I also had a two-gallon pitcher of ice-cold water that I had just taken out of the fridge next to me. So I flipped the middle part (#3) over the bottom part (#4) and then snagged the pitcher. So far I'm fine. But the lesson is clear - the middle section (#3) gets very hot. So the unsightly truth is, always wear protective gear when working with this equipment. I have the teflon gloves they used to sell and will wear them from now on. Conclusion: the device is excellent. It does exactly what they say, but the device gets very, very hot and unless you want to burn yourself like I did, wear (or use) something when handling it. Don't burn yourself - literally. Other than that, fantastic unit!
