Having previously had a hay dispenser that just threw everything away I can say this was a pleasant surprise in my guinea pig's habitat. Almost no garbage! Whatever my piglets choose is eaten without leaving any waste. The grate is spring-loaded and constantly presses on the hay, holding it in place. The device itself is of high quality and makes a very durable impression. It's also easy to fill. My only complaint is that I have a hard time turning the plastic screw to attach the device to the cage. Otherwise this item is great so I will definitely buy again.
