Allows the USB cable to use the new USB Type-C connector (external hard drive example)
I have a new computer with a high-speed USB Type-C connector. I wanted to use a Western Digital external hard drive with it and this adapter worked great! The small end plugs into a Type-C USB port on the computer, while the other end allows the two USB ports to be connected together. Works perfectly!
