Review on Fostex T50RP MK3 Semi-Open 🎧 Studio Headphones, Designed for Professional Use by Athit Za ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality exceeds all expectations, I recommend to buy.

I liked the sound out of the box - a gentle rise in the upper part of the bass gives a pleasant bass sound, but without a hum, the middle is clean and even, the vocals sound great, the instruments are natural. High frequencies are good - not a hint of sharpness, but not muffled either. On a weak source - a smartphone, the sound is quiet even at the maximum, the bass is too smeared, and there are not enough tops. Headphones sounded from the stationary Little Dot II tube and from the headphone output of the Emotiva A-100 amplifier. And even on them, the volume control was twisted by me more than I used to, in 12 hours on quiet tracks. The headphone output of this amplifier has a peculiarity - when two jumpers are installed, the full power of the amplifier is supplied to it, which gave a wild power margin even for these fosteks and changed the sound a little - the bass became more collected, the tonal balance slightly evened out, although the overall character of the sound was preserved , naturally. I also tried to connect to the Fiio X3 II player - the sound is excellent through it, though the volume will have to be turned up almost to the maximum on high gain, but why not as an option. Headphones sound warm, but without turbidity, no harshness, the sound is smoothed, while maintaining readability and detail. Metal sounds great, even in compressed phonograms, a symphony orchestra sounds very powerful and large-scale. In general, all genres sound nice, only sometimes the bass can be a little too much, but the sound is engaging and it's hard to tear yourself away from listening. The sound is not audiophile, but rather meloman. Changing the ear pads according to reviews changes the sound, so there is room for experimentation, besides, the stock ones are made of leatherette and are quite thin, which is why the pressure on the ears is strong and it will be a little hot in the warm season (but they are soft and of high quality). By and large, the inconveniences are not prohibitive even in stock and you can listen for a long time.

Pros
  • Driving, captivating sound with a powerful pleasant bass, good mids and neat highs - detail within the required framework. Detachable cable, detachable ear pads, reliable simple design, soft and high quality ear pads, reasonable price. Deficiencies are potentially fixable.
Cons
  • The ear pads are thin - your ears will sing in warm weather, the bundled cables are so-so - one is too long and hard, the second is a bit short.
