Review on ๐ŸŽฅ TOTMC USB 2.0 Video Capture Adapter: Windows XP/2000/Vista/7/8 Compatible by Brian Messerly

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Finally -- a working video grabber

I had no idea that finding a good USB 2 video capture card would have to be such an exercise in frustration, perseverance and patience. After I bought, tested, and returned two more, TOTMC finally proved good enough to give me high-quality video and audio for creating video files and burning DVDs from my old VHS tapes - but not without some extra hassle. First I bought a Diamond VC500 with a high rating. It came with good software and was easy to install and use, but it produced noisy video images. The second example of the same device was only slightly quieter, but I decided to leave it as is. The UCEC USB 2.0 converter captures videos that are not color fixed. Many horizontal rainbow stripes. return for a refund. TOTMC got enough gold stars in the published reviews that I decided to give it another try and ordered it. I don't praise the included ArcSoft ShowBiz software, but it works great with several other programs, notably Cyberlink Power Director (comes with Diamond), OBS Studio, and VSDC Free Video Editor. The images are stable with almost no glitches and I enjoy watching video files of it on my Smart TV. TOTMC may be identical to Ezcap 172. It looks like this and is identified as ezcap when you select your capture device from the software menu (the drivers are the same?). But who can say for sure? It's entirely possible that all of these similar-looking little video grabbers come from the same Chinese manufacturer, but each of them has its own characteristics. but it's a real trick that requires a FireWire interface on your PC. An inexpensive USB device is much more practical and versatile. I'm glad I found something that suits me. I would give it 5 stars for the specs, but it deserves better software. I had to try several combinations to find a good setting.

Pros
  • Capable of capturing analog files from VHS, V8 to H.264.MPEG-4; Can record audio without a sound card
Cons
  • Some issues
