Review on Blazin Thaw Defrosting Thickness Defroster by Jason Spainhour

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not exactly what they advertise / may not ALWAYS work - NOT HAPPY AT ALL with this tray!

So I researched and paid for Blazin' Thaly defrost. Well, I get it and I'm actually not very happy. "Pointed" or cut from below. I don't know why - maybe to increase the surface area. But if you stretch the metal the tray actually becomes thinner than the 3mm tray I already have - maybe 2mm thick in my opinion. See attached photos for comparison. But based on the ad I figured it would be a lot stronger and 6mm without all the channels underneath. I figured that the thicker the metal (assuming it's solid, of course) the greater the power of ambient heat to thaw meat/chicken/etc much faster. So the 6mm tray is actually thinner than the metal and I noticed that the promotional photos don't show this discrepancy. So guess what - I put in the two shells I have now (see checked the previously purchased scoop shell (3mm) versus the 6mm shell I just bought. Hmm, almost no difference in the thawing time. And yes the two steaks were FLAT like disco on two baking sheets and I removed the two red rubber rims on the 6mm baking sheet so they both lay flat on the table. 3mm thick thawed more than the advertised 6mm. Roughly ( in my opinion) 30% more than the 6mm sheet I think this is because the 3mm tray has stronger and thicker metal on the steak than the 6mm tray. extracting more heat from the air and thus drawing more coldness out of the steaks I discard the 6mm tray and use it to line the bottom of my birdcage.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
