Review on 🌳 Optimized SubstrateSource 3 Piece Cholla Wood Aquarium Driftwood Set by Jared Coleman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal for rhizomatous plants! Not so much for fish.

Update: After sitting in my aquarium for a few weeks I can honestly say they can be a death trap for any type of fish! In particular, I received the large cholla wood in my batch. My large zebrafish (Tom) got stuck in one of these. Thank goodness I was able to figure it out after trying desperately for 30 minutes. I wouldn't even notice he was gone, but Jerry (my other zebrafish) was acting weird. Swim to Cholla Forest and back. desperately trying to tell me his friend was in danger! If you're buying these for your aquarium that has fish in it, I highly recommend burying them halfway to cover the holes at each end. So glad Tom survived! Old Review: I'm so glad I found this one on Amazon. I was looking for some wood that had holes/splits good enough for my Anubias nanas and Yavana ferns to attach to as they grow. My LFS was selling chola wood for $6.99 each! A steep price if you ask me. So I decided to try them on Amazon, afraid they wouldn't be as good as the ones in my LFS. My fear of breaking ugly hooks went away as soon as I opened the box. They are absolutely beautiful and small enough to fit my 6 gallon riverside without looking cramped, yet large enough for my plants to grow on over time without overwhelming my substrate. I'm so happy with it. I rinsed them beforehand and then cooked them. Drain the water every 30 minutes and then boil again for 2 hours. I also let them soak to swell and release as much tannins as possible for 7 days afterward. They sank in completely and sat perfectly on my substrate. If you're looking for cholla driftwood, get it. At $8 for a 3 pack you won't be disappointed. Disclaimer: Disregard my manzanita trees in my photos. my Christmas moss is getting used to its new dimensions.
