Laptop loses power when plugged in

The unit seems bad but I can't return it to Amazon now. The laptop loses power and turns off when connected to the network, but not when plugged into the same outlet that the device was plugged into. Very disappointing as I have enjoyed other Tripp Lite products. I hope it is faulty but I will never know as no items are returned.
