A quick start not only protects my lamps by preheating the cathodes, it also starts up quickly and the light is almost too bright to look at. In the garage, that's exactly what I want. The only downside is that if you have shunted cartridges, you'll have to replace them with non-shunted cartridges. After that everything can go.
