I ordered this case to convert my HP desktop computer's old internal hard drive, which was destroyed by a terrible thunderstorm last November, into an external hard drive for movies and to convert images. Lightning struck near the house which blew out our cable modem (not a router though) and blew up the PC's motherboard (all the attached components and the hard drive remained in working order. Crazy. Some other reviews mentioned problems installing the Hard disk). inside I didn't have this problem at all. There were 6 screws in the kit: 2 short black, 2 short silver, and 2 long silver. It takes a few seconds to realize that there are 2 black ones going to the backplate (to hold the plate to the case. because the plate is black. When you slide the backplate over the back of your bare hard drive it only goes one way ( the SATA connectors must match, and there is only one way to do this), and the two levers on the plate have holes that line up with the mounting holes in the hard drive. First I grabbed two long silver screws and they didn't fit, too big. I just pulled them out, used a short dh (perfect fit), and then put everything together. Ether. There are two more holes on the side of the outer case - this is where long silver screws enter. I assembled everything in under 5 minutes without even looking at the instructions. This is very intuitive for ANYONE with even a little computer experience. The back of the case has a small sliding power switch (I would have preferred a rocker switch for better feel in the dark, but for the price I'm NOT complaining), a connector for the included power supply, and a connector for connecting a hard drive to your PC /device with a USB 2.0 cable (also included). After putting everything together, I connected the appropriate cables, turned it on, and connected it to the computer. It was a simple task to format, copy, films and pictures and now everything is archived and safely protected. Copying 60GB of data from my PC to the hard drive took about 45 full minutes, and the case got a little warm (nothing special). have no regrets at all! This device will not be connected to the network 24/7, so I think that even playing a movie (about 2 hours) will not heat it up much. There aren't any vents on the case, but since it's aluminum, the excess heat should dissipate fairly well into the air. If I find it's not I'll update this review, but I'm pretty sure it will work just fine. Next time I have a spare hard drive I know what I'm going to do. ! Can't recommend this product enough!
