I wanted to cut it off and use it as an extension cord for an old rotary phone. On cutting, I found several thin strands of six or so thin strands of brittle steel plated with copper. My particular bundle arrived in a bundle with a large zip tie, but that didn't matter. The extremely low quality of the wire itself was important. If you never intend to move your phone, that's probably fine as long as you don't dare bend that uselessly fragile cable; but if you're looking for a decent wire that will bend without breaking, look elsewhere.
