VERY HAPPY! on temperature controls

I bought this digital thermostat (DT) model because it can handle 30 amps instead of the 10 amps of most other DTs. Cause: My Amana fridge/freezer (LRA - Locked Rotor Amplifiers) has an initial load of 21 amps. The easiest way to wire this DT to control your fridge/freezer is to simply connect it in series with your existing thermostat and then install the component. on the coldest setting. (If the existing thermostat is faulty or failing, then just remove it and connect an AP instead.) To do this, first check the old thermostat inside the fridge and trace its wires (by color) to the back of the unit for where they are probably located behind a removable cover. WITH UNIT OFF OR LOCKED OUT, disconnect ONE wire from the old thermostat, add extension wires (18-14 AWG) to each cut end, then connect to the changeover contacts on the DT. (Once you've done this and decide to swap out your fridge, you can simply unplug those extension cords and the DT, reconnect the two cut ends of the cord, and the unit will reconnect as it was). Leave the temperature sensor on the existing thermostat. Locate the wiring portal on the back of the freezer (you'll probably need to push back some putty covering the portal) and thread the DT temp sensor through it, then thread it through the front. Carefully reapply the putty. You may need to add an extension to the sensor wires. Once installed, remember that DT measures temperature in real time. Therefore, the digital display will constantly fluctuate downwards (due to the cold air currents inside the freezer) as the temperature drops. The reading will continue to fluctuate after the refrigeration stops and the freezer heats back up to the differential temperature you set. (You might want to get an accurate regular fridge thermometer and use that reading to make DT adjustments.) The accurate, real-time readings from these DTs really let you know what's going on in your freezer. When dealing with older equipment (weaker compressors, worn door seals, etc.) you should be realistic about the temperature you are trying to achieve as this can make a huge difference in refrigeration cycles. and your electric bill. On my 20 year old Amana, setting the freeze cool to 5 degrees and the differential to 10 degrees (i.e. warm up to 15 degrees) works very well. within a period of time. I just find a digital voice recorder behind the machine and let the compressor record for hours; even at night. Then the audio visualization and timestamps will show you the exact ON-OFF-ON-OFF cycle times with any audio editing program/application.
