difficult to use for electrics

I had one that had a plain dial. It has numbers and you have to set the number to make it blink. only I don't remember which number does what, it's not written anywhere and I don't carry any instructions with me. and when it comes to electricity, remember if 1 was the setting for 120 AC or 8 was the setting number for it. I can not find it. There is also a high-low function that makes no sense when I use it. it replaces what I've broken, but I almost never adopt it, even though it looks like it's meant to be exquisite.
