In addition to other reviews, the box sits on top of the base "post" and grips the extension post. If you hold the stand at the minimum height like I did, the box disappears under the stand. However, if you're good with a drill (or knife), you can use a large drill bit and lightly trim the plastic edge at the top. This allows the box to grab the bottom bar, and quite snugly, with positioning all the way down. In general I am very happy. The round holder is not designed for a water bottle (!) and the beverage can disappears into it. However, a piece of wood can reduce the depth and make a beautiful water or soda bottle holder.
