I'm guessing it might not have an ELM chip but I didn't really notice as it does what I need to communicate with my XTrons main unit and codes to read . I use it with a 2008 Jeep Commander and XTrons head unit. I had to change the bluetooth pairing code in my main unit from 0000 to 1234 for this to work, but after that it never disconnects on startup so I leave it plugged in almost all the time.
