I don't know if he received the right product because mine looks exactly like the picture. It looks cheap on the outside, which is to be expected for a low price, but I have to say I was surprised by the sharpener's strength when powered by batteries or USB. I tried to squeeze hard enough and it didn't bother me. The pens are nice and sharp. They can easily be replaced with a simple manual sharpener in the form of a razor blade. It wouldn't be a problem for a pencil from time to time,
