Review on ⚡ 30 Amp Hardwire Model Surge Guard 35530 by Chef Deane

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Total lack of customer service from the manufacturer

The surge protector is easy to install once you figure out where to install it. An external display (sold separately) easily connects to the device and the display is digital, clear and easy to read. The only major issue I've had with the Surge Guard is the complete lack of customer service from Southwire, the manufacturer of the device. When trying to start the air conditioner in my trailer, I got a ground fault error message. This made no sense to me as I plugged my trailer into the same household outlet and have never gotten a ground fault on other surge protector units I own (pole mounted). I don't think the shutdown was due to a ground fault, but rather a low voltage situation that occurs when the A/C compressor kicks in, so I contacted Southwire to see if I could get clarification. I used their online messaging system to send a message explaining my problem. After a few days I received no reply. I checked my spam folder to make sure the email reply was not sent to that folder. Message not found. A few more days later I called the company and got an automated message that due to Covid they should only be contacted via their online messaging service for technical issues so I sent another message regarding this issue. It's been over two weeks and still no reply. So my 3-star rating is not a slap to the device (although the problem is low voltage, the message should be low voltage) but the lack of a response from Southwire, not even an acknowledgment that my message was received and is being looked into. This is the third surge protector I've owned, so I don't have any negative opinions on their product BUT if you have a problem with the device, this experience tells me that you should find a solution yourself.
