I experienced the gray screen of death myself when my 2010 13" Macbook Pro recently decided it wasn't booting properly. It stayed stuck on a gray screen at startup with a spinning wheel that kept spinning. and spinning. and spinning. Booting into recovery mode found my hard drive was corrupt - awesome! I was concerned about the cost of the purchase of a brand new computer but then I thought why not try to fix it myself? I chose 3-5 days delivery, the package arrived in two days! Very impressed. I then went to a local dollar tree and got a "Set of precision screwdrivers" and the smallest one was able to remove the screws from the bottom of the laptop.The hard drive installation was MUCH easier than That's what I thought and only lasted about 15 minutes. As others have said, you MUST boot into recovery mode and erase the new disk. Otherwise the computer will not recognize it and you will not be able to install the operating system. A few hours after installing the operating system and restarting my Time Machine (seriously, buy an external hard drive so you can do this) my computer is back to the way it was - in fact, I'm writing this review straight from my computer . now! The added benefit of installing a hard drive was that I could see how DIRTY my computer was inside. There was so much dust on the components. I was able to gently wipe the dust and now my computer runs silently and I've noticed that it's much quieter. Serious. when you need a replacement hard drive for your MacBook Pro. Buy this hard drive and do it yourself! The best way to save hundreds of dollars. :)
