The entire inflation component is contained within the matress. The power cord is stored in a little compartment on the side, which connects to the pump. The pump has both a inflate and deflate option so you can collapse it for storage later. Overall, it was pretty simple to inflate, just plug it in and turn the knob to "inflate". The pump is fairly loud, but that's been the case for almost any air mattress I've used before. It inflated over the course of a few minutes. The top is a nice soft "velvet" and the matress is firm but comfortable when inflated. If you want it to be a bit softer, you can just slightly deflate it. I left it inflated for almost two days and didn't notice any significant leakage from the bed, it was still firm enough to sleep on at the end of my test. Deflation was easy with the pump, and then I folded it up into the included bag. Overall, seems like a good-quality mattress.
