Review on Abus Locks Frame Vbrake Adapter by Nico Ramdeen

Does the job! for cycling

I bought these as a solution for my new M-Wave frame lock (for my bike) which I also got from Revain. Most American riders are probably not familiar with frame locks as they are not used here as they are in Europe. As other reviewers have said, most American made bikes are not designed to use/install frame locks. I looked around and noticed vendors selling some sort of aftermarket harness system that would help you attach the harness to the frame and then attach the frame lock. To me this looked like a half-baked solution that was easy to beat even with cutting pliers. So I found these braces from ABUS and decided to try them. I figured if they were made by a company that also sells/manufactures many different styles of frame locks, they probably put some "thinking" into their decision. This product does the job and after replacing the supplied bolts (see below for details) I was able to install the frame lock for my own short bolts/nuts without too much trouble. The included screws are brass colored and come with a small rubber cap that slips onto the threaded backing after you've attached it to the mount. BUT. These screws are very difficult to start. I would have to press them against my desktop and then use a screwdriver to get them to work. I'm not sure if both screw heads can handle the applied torque without the head loosening. I've read several other reviewers (other than Revain) saying the same thing. I could have made an effort to get them to work, but figured my own solution would be faster and just as secure. So I pulled out my own bolts/nuts and used the kit on each bracket INSTEAD of the supplied bolts. Maybe those of us who complain about screws don't see what they should, but after many years of design work I know of different types of devices. I KNOW the idea that ABUS was going for with this type of screw mount, but it's not very convenient for most people to mount a simple mount. I would suggest making the holes in the bracket a bit larger so people can at least run the screws while still being tight. The screw situation is the only reason I'm deducting a star for that. Review. The product itself and the job it does is great. I STRONGLY recommend that you try these braces and not the aftermarket harness system that others are selling. These brackets also give your rig a more professional look compared to other optional straps. This is a great solution.
